Yes. Go right ahead and book a reservation for the H Hotel at LAX. Based on my recent one night stay there, I can promise that you’re not going to be murdered, ripped off, or even disappointed.

It’s a pretty nice airport hotel actually. I especially like how the rooms are deceptively high end(ish) – despite the ‘low budget’ vibe of the exterior.

A full review of my one night stay at the H Hotel LAX

There are many hotels adjacent to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). None of them are terrible, but I can say with confidence that the H is one of the best.

Location

This H Hotel is located at 6151 West Century Blvd – adjacent to the main entrance of the airport. It’s the second closest hotel to LAX. If you choose to walk, it takes just 10 minutes from Terminal 1. Plan on about 15-20 minutes from Terminal 8.

There’s also a shuttle bus which makes a loop around the airport once every 15 minutes or so. Note that it won’t stop at every terminal – just the designated pick up points.

H Hotel LAX shuttle bus
The Joe’s Airport Parking / H Hotel / Homewood Suites shuttle bus has arrived at Terminal 5! It’s not worth celebrating yet though – there’s still a pretty good chance of getting mowed down by an a**hole in a Corolla as I scurry over to it.

The hotel shuttle bus situation at LAX is absolutely bonkers BTW. There was nowhere for the driver to pull over to pick me up, so he just stopped in the middle of the road (with cars whizzing by on both sides). The “deer in the headlights’ look on my face tells you everything you need to know about how nuts it was to catch this bus:

This is the main entrance to the H Hotel on Century Boulevard (as seen on the morning of my departure). Look at me go having the strength to hold the camera so steady after the previous night’s scary a** shuttle bus ride from the airport!

The lobby (and checking in)

Upon walking through the main entrance, you’ll notice right away that the vibe is casual and laid-back (as opposed to stuffy and corporate). It reminded me a lot of the Fairfield Inn in Grand Blanc, MI actually.

H Hotel LAX check-in desk
Yeah, check-in desk looks nice but…is that really a Krispy Kreme vending machine that I see over there?

You’re damn right it is! I might as well end this review right here (and declare it The Best Hotel Ever), because I can promise you it’s not gonna get any better than this.

Checking was quick and easy. Even with two people ahead of me, I was on my way in less than five minutes.

There’s also a restaurant and bar located in the lobby (over yonder). Completely unnecessary given the Krispy Kreme situation IMHO, but I’m glad they made the effort.

Getting to my room

The elevators are conveniently located adjacent to the check-in desk. Figuring out the elevators took a minute, but finding my room was relatively simple given the complex floor plan of this property.

Pro tip: pay very close attention when they tell you your room number during the check in process. You will need to enter that information into a kiosk to access the elevators.

Here I am in the elevator (after having to go back to the check in desk to find out how to use the elevators).

Room 725! My apologies to the H Hotel custodial team for the trail of donut crumbs leading to this spot.

Room overview

Having a room with a view of the airport was more important to me than choosing something fancy and elegant. I couldn’t care less about a fancy room, as I arrived at 11 PM and departed 8 AM. All I needed was a place to sleep (and peep some airplanes).

Opening the door only to find…another door. +10 bonus points for keeping me intrigued.
H Hotel LAX corner room
Whoa. I totally wasn’t expecting the high ceiling. +5 more points for that.
H Hotel LAX furniture
OK, now that’s creepy. If you’ve ever seen the George C Scott version of ‘A Christmas Carol’, you will fully understand why I was suddenly feeling concerned about being haunted by three spirits overnight. -30 points.
H Hotel LAX corner room
The good news is that the rest of the room didn’t look anywhere near as ghostly. These corner rooms are kinda nice!
H Hotel LAX king bed
A bed fit for a King (and a super nerdy hotel reviewer such as I).

Looking back towards the entrance. This is nice, but there’s still something kind of creepy about it. Is it the wall sconces and high ceiling?
H Hotel LAX room decor
Nope. It’s that damn chair.
H Hotel LAX in room couch
Speaking of places to sit, the couch located on the far end of the room was far more friendly and inviting.
Scott testing out the furniture in the H Hotel LAX
I can’t remember exactly what I was thinking at this exact moment. The expression on my face leads me to believe that I was thinking of ways to rid myself of the creepy chair situation over there on the other side of the room.

Other than that chair, everything else about the room what was decently well designed, comforting, and convenient. I especially liked how spacious it felt. High ceilings do make a difference!

H Hotel LAX in room desk and chair
Yeah, the desk seemed a little half a**ed. It probably wouldn’t be a bad place to devour an entire box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts though.
H Hotel LAX electrical outlets and USB charging ports
Electrical outlets and USB charging ports for your charging pleasure.

Want some coffee to go with your donuts? There’s a Keurig coffee maker for that. Want a place to keep them cool for a late night snack? There’s a refrigerator for that. They pretty much thought of everything.

The closet situation (isn’t all that exciting – that’s why I saved it for last).

The view

This was a corner room on the southwest side of the property. The views of the airport were excellent! Unfortunately, the windows were absolutely filthy – to the point where it almost made taking pictures impossible.

H Hotel LAX view of Airport from room
This is the view looking south (towards the south complex and runways 25R and 25L). As you can see, “California Dreamin'” is basically a load of horse sh*t on these gloomy overcast mornings.

And here’s the view looking west towards the main entrance of LAX. “All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray…”

The bathroom

The night prior to this visit, I stayed in a room at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with one of the most interesting bathrooms I have ever seen. I didn’t think it would be possible to enjoy “normal” hotel bathrooms anymore, but the one here at the H really impressed me.

Those of you traveling with a stinky companion will no doubt appreciate how separated the bathroom is from the rest of the room. It’s up there on the right.

The older I get, the more I appreciate a simple (and well lit) bathroom. This one delivered on both counts.

This is sweet! Fancy pants bathrooms are overrated in my opinion.

Lockwood shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Quit yer bitchin’ – it’s from New York!

Pros and cons

If I’m being honest, this experience was nothing like I thought it would be. I was expecting something basic and cheap – something along the lines of the MSY Hilton. It ended up being hip (and kinda chic) instead.

Pros

  • The location is fantastic. You can easily walk to it from LAX.
  • It’s one of the most stylish airport hotels that I’ve ever stayed at.
  • It’s surprisingly quiet for a hotel located adjacent to one of the world’s busiest airports.
  • The views of the airport are excellent.

Cons

  • The shuttle bus situation is fairly gnarly due to all the traffic congestion around LAX. I highly recommend walking instead.
  • It’s far from being the cheapest hotel near LAX.
  • The chair in my room still haunts me to this day.
