There are a lot of great hotels in Singapore, and you can’t really go wrong with any of them. Deciding on a place to stay ultimately comes down to the neighborhood / district you want to stay in. Not the hotel itself IMHO.

If you want to stay near the Marina Bay Sands Casino (and the Bugis Street Shopping District), I can’t recommend the Pan Pacific Hotel highly enough.

Yeah, it looks a little outdated. But everything else about it is very awesome (by today’s lofty standards).

A full review of my one night stay at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore

Like many other hotel reviews here on my blog, this was a repeat visit. I first stayed at this hotel in 2020. The review you are about to read is an overview of my most recent stay in 2024. It was every bit as good as the first time.

Location

You’ll find the Pan Pacific Hotel in the Central Business District (7 Raffles Boulevard, Marina Square). Actually, it’s kind of a b*tch to find despite being one of the largest hotels in the area. The roads and walkways surrounding this property very nice, but a little convoluted.

Welcome to the Pan Pacific Singapore!

Not so fast, cowboy. I may have found the hotel, but I’m still looking for the main entrance…

17 minutes (and probably a gallon of sweat) later, I found it. This looks nice!

The lobby (and checking in)

The lobby of this hotel is basically a tourist destination. The design is a little 1990s, but the architecture is impressive. “Grand” is the best word I can think of to describe it.

Pan Pacific Hotel lobby
The lobby looks pretty good too. $20 says those trees aren’t real though. (This is a hotel review after all, so I’ve gotta be critical about something.)
Pan Pacific Hotel reception desk
Another mostly unnecessary criticism: If you thought the main entrance was hard to find, just wait until you try to figure out where the reception desk is. It was almost like an afterthought.

Checking in was fast and easy. There was no waiting when I arrived at 2 PM (for a 3 PM check in) and they were able to accommodate me without any issues.

Oh.

Getting to my room

One of the best parts about staying at the Pan Pacific is the process of getting to and from your room. The elevator ride is awesome (and not for the faint of heart). You like heights, right?

Now this is an elevator! It may not be for the faint of heart, but it is one heck of a ride..

Trying my damnedest to remind myself that I’m not afraid of heights. *gulp*
Pan Pacific Hotel atrium
Those of you who have a fear of heights need to know that the walk to your room will be just as scary as the elevator ride was.
My advice? Keep looking straight ahead. OR (and this is just an idea, but…) you can get over your fear of heights before coming here. This hotel is too good to be afraid of.

I made it. Room 2401 is my lair for the night.

Room overview

I paid extra for a “Panoramic” room. Not gonna lie – I was kind of expecting something along the lines of the room that I had at the Reverie Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City two nights prior. Not necessarily in regards to the decor – but in regards to the view. As you’ll see, it was a giant swing and a miss.

Walking into my room at the pan Pacific Hotel
My first thought when cracking open the door and getting a look at the room for the very first time? It was trying to figure out the kelvin temperature of the lighting (which I determined to be approximately 2300. Ish.)

My second thought? That maybe the whole “panoramic view” thing (that I paid extra for) was slightly exaggerated. More on that later…
Pan Pacific Hotel King size bed
The bed though. Ain’t no disappointment there.

Other than the lack of a panoramic view, the room itself is really nice. It was exactly the same as it was during my first visit in 2020 – but a lot more modern looking than the lobby downstairs.

Pan Pacific Hotel room overview
Everything is very square. And yellow. I like it though.
Exposed bathroom in my room at the pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore
I like how the bathroom is exposed. It’s not as extreme as what you saw in my review of the room that I had at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but I’m digging it.

“I take that back. This is more like 2100 – not 2300.”

Two bottles of complementary water were…complementary. Gracias!

And not only was there a handy Nespresso machine…
Tea and coffee in my room at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore
…there was a drawer of goodies just beneath it (for your drinking pleasure).
Minibar in my room at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore
Speaking of drinking pleasure, this is the minibar. That big Snickers bar (the one on the far right) was too great to resist. They got me.
Electrical outlets in my room at the pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore
The electrical outlet situation. Decent, but nowhere near as good as the Snickers situation IMHO.

The closet was a little small. Honestly? If that’s my biggest gripe about the room, things are going very well.

Closet space with safe and bathrobes
I like how the interior of this closet reminds me of the interior of a 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo. This is probably more spacious though.
Bathrobe detail
The bathrobes are a little thin! They do provide two of them though, so doubling up is an option.

The view

The funniest part about this being a “Panoramic” room is the fact that this is the exact same view that I had from a standard room back in 2020. I’m thinking maybe they hired a new marketing person since then.

Don’t get me wrong. The view was spectacular. I spent hours standing in the window admiring the sights of Singapore at work.

Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore panoramic room view
Yeah, it’s a nice view and all, but I don’t think this technically qualifies as “panoramic.”
Scott looking out of the window at the pan Pacific Hotel Singapore
If they were being honest, they would’ve called this the “Holy sh*t what a view!” room. But it’s certainly not panoramic.

That moment when you start wondering if there’s someone over there at the Conrad standing in his window (hands on the hips) looking back at you.

This is what the view looks like at dusk BTW. Just trying to be thorough.

The bathroom

I loves me a bathroom with a view of the room (just about as much as a room with a view of the bathroom). It was a very nice bathroom overall – very similar to the one that I had at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul not long ago.

Walking into the bathroom
Let’s go to the bathroom, shall we?
Bathroom overview in my room at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore
This is almost as nice as the bathroom that I experienced in my room at the Crowne Plaza at Changi Airport last night. Those Singaporeans. They know how to design a bathroom!
Bathtub in my room at the pan Pacific Hotel Singapore
The tub. With an excellent view of the bed. And Singapore.
Shower in my room at the pan Pacific Hotel Singapore
There’s a shower too (just in case you’re not in the mood to expose your junk to everyone over at the Conrad).
Bathroom amenities including toothbrushes and toothpaste
Complementary toothbrushes and toothpaste! I had no use for the shower cap though (because bald).

And there you have it. Another super nerdy hotel review complete.

Pros and cons

Is this the best hotel in Singapore? No. Is it a really good hotel in Singapore? Heck yes. I’ve stayed here twice already, and I’d have no problem doing it again. You wouldn’t have to twist my arm.

Pros

  • Location is excellent (as long as you’re looking for a hotel in the Central Business District).
  • The views from the upper floor rooms are fantastic.
  • Being connected directly to a shopping mall (with a huge assortment of restaurants and cafés) is highly convenient.

Cons

  • Parts of the lobby are starting to look a little dated.
  • It’s a very hot and steamy 15 to 20 minute walk to the very core of the downtown area.
  • You’re not gonna like the elevators if you’re just a wee bit afraid of heights.
