There are a lot of great hotels in Singapore, and you can’t really go wrong with any of them. Deciding on a place to stay ultimately comes down to the neighborhood / district you want to stay in. Not the hotel itself IMHO.
If you want to stay near the Marina Bay Sands Casino (and the Bugis Street Shopping District), I can’t recommend the Pan Pacific Hotel highly enough.
Yeah, it looks a little outdated. But everything else about it is very awesome (by today’s lofty standards).
A full review of my one night stay at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore
Like many other hotel reviews here on my blog, this was a repeat visit. I first stayed at this hotel in 2020. The review you are about to read is an overview of my most recent stay in 2024. It was every bit as good as the first time.
Location
You’ll find the Pan Pacific Hotel in the Central Business District (7 Raffles Boulevard, Marina Square). Actually, it’s kind of a b*tch to find despite being one of the largest hotels in the area. The roads and walkways surrounding this property very nice, but a little convoluted.
The lobby (and checking in)
The lobby of this hotel is basically a tourist destination. The design is a little 1990s, but the architecture is impressive. “Grand” is the best word I can think of to describe it.
Checking in was fast and easy. There was no waiting when I arrived at 2 PM (for a 3 PM check in) and they were able to accommodate me without any issues.
Getting to my room
One of the best parts about staying at the Pan Pacific is the process of getting to and from your room. The elevator ride is awesome (and not for the faint of heart). You like heights, right?
Room overview
I paid extra for a “Panoramic” room. Not gonna lie – I was kind of expecting something along the lines of the room that I had at the Reverie Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City two nights prior. Not necessarily in regards to the decor – but in regards to the view. As you’ll see, it was a giant swing and a miss.
Other than the lack of a panoramic view, the room itself is really nice. It was exactly the same as it was during my first visit in 2020 – but a lot more modern looking than the lobby downstairs.
The closet was a little small. Honestly? If that’s my biggest gripe about the room, things are going very well.
The view
The funniest part about this being a “Panoramic” room is the fact that this is the exact same view that I had from a standard room back in 2020. I’m thinking maybe they hired a new marketing person since then.
Don’t get me wrong. The view was spectacular. I spent hours standing in the window admiring the sights of Singapore at work.
The bathroom
I loves me a bathroom with a view of the room (just about as much as a room with a view of the bathroom). It was a very nice bathroom overall – very similar to the one that I had at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul not long ago.
Pros and cons
Is this the best hotel in Singapore? No. Is it a really good hotel in Singapore? Heck yes. I’ve stayed here twice already, and I’d have no problem doing it again. You wouldn’t have to twist my arm.
Pros
- Location is excellent (as long as you’re looking for a hotel in the Central Business District).
- The views from the upper floor rooms are fantastic.
- Being connected directly to a shopping mall (with a huge assortment of restaurants and cafés) is highly convenient.
Cons
- Parts of the lobby are starting to look a little dated.
- It’s a very hot and steamy 15 to 20 minute walk to the very core of the downtown area.
- You’re not gonna like the elevators if you’re just a wee bit afraid of heights.
